Because IE users are people too…

As promised, Internet Explorer users may now pick a BlogWood theme that is optimized for IE. Just go down to the bottom of the right column and click the IE link under Theme Switcher.

I'm still working out the kinks, so let me know if it's strange. Also, Firefox users will not enjoy the IE theme, but I'll be offering more in the future for everyone to pick from.

Oh, and IE users are strongly encouraged to download and try Firefox, thus avoiding the need to switch to a simpler theme.

Real posts will resume shortly.

Coming soon….

More actual posts!

Low activity levels of late are directly related to the changeover last week to WordPress. I'm modifying templates and doing lots of other housekeeping chores in order to improve your BlogWood experience.

I'm especially hoping to get a template online that will allow Internet Explorer users to actually see the name of the blog.

So, please stand by, and check back often for these promised updates...

IE flops – Please Stand By

I've been made aware of the fact that some Internet Explorer users can't see the title of the blog. Actually, it's much quirkier than that, as the text will usually become visible if the text size is set to extra large, or if a user scrolls down the page and then back up.

Since about 75 percent of you use Internet Explorer, I am doing my best to clean things up, but in the meantime, if you'd like to painlessly download and install Firefox, the free, better alternative to Internet Explorer, you can immediately wallow in all the glory of BlogWood as it was meant to be wallowed in.

Oh, and those of you who signed up for email notifications will notice that you're now getting notified for every new post instead of once a day. It seems that I'm stuck with either all or nothing, but the good news is that you can easily unsubscribe by following the handy links provided in the emails.

WordPress is here

Expect lots of weirdness on BlogWood this weekend, as I am simultaneously changing web hosts and blogging software.

I've been publishing with Movable Type, which started out as a good, free web publishing tool. Very powerful, flexible, and quite adequate for my needs. But then they had to go and start charging for it.

Actually, since BlogWood is a non-profit project, MT would have stayed free for me, but the licensing agreement was very strict, limiting my options should I decide to bring in more authors or lots of other little things.

So it's on to WordPress: an open source community project that offers similar (but Better! Bigger! Stronger!) features and is just different enough to occasionally throw me for a loop.

As I learn and experiment and tweak and tinker, the site may well experience times of darkness. Please bear with me, and check back throughout the weekend to see what's new.

And look around. There's some new features for your pleasure, and more cool stuff coming soon.

Exciting the base

Deal Reached on Bill to Allow Federal Review of Schiavo Case

Congressional leaders hoped a deal reached Saturday would clear the way for a brain-damaged woman to resume being fed while a federal court reviews the right-to-die battle between her parents and her husband.

``We think we have found a solution'' to the Terri Schiavo case, House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, R-Texas, said at a Capitol Hill news conference.

``I'm pleased to announce that House and Senate Republican leadership have reached an agreement on a legislative solution,'' Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist of Tennessee said a few hours later at the start of a brief Senate session.

``Under the legislation we will soon consider Terry Schiavo will have another chance,'' said Frist.

``We are confident this compromise addresses everyone's concerns, we are confident it will provide Mrs. Schiavo a clear and appropriate avenue for appeal in federal court, and most importantly, we are confident this compromise will restore nutrition and hydration to Mrs. Schiavo as long as that appeal endures,'' DeLay said.

Uh, if Mrs. Schiavo were able to appeal anything, it would be this unwanted interference in her personal end of life decisions. But she can’t think right now, and there have been plenty of trials to determine her wishes, and a Baptist judge found that she would not want to live life as a vegetable.

Why are the Republicans so anxious to meddle with Terri Schiavo’s peaceful death? Because they care.

"This is an important moral issue and the pro-life base will be excited..." and "This is a great political issue... this is a tough issue for Democrats."
