Driver who killed finally comes forward

She says she was too scared to stop. It’s not clear exactly what frightened her about stopping. But she’s white, and she has a fancy lawyer, and the kids she killed were black and poor, so she probably doesn’t have a whole hell of a lot to be scared of. (If you don’t believe that, look at the fact that she has not been arrested yet. A black laborer who hit some white kids in Palma Ceia would be prominently featured on a postcard by now.) Oh, she’s a teacher. And she may have tampered with evidence by cleaning her car.

``There is no excuse for her not stopping,'' said PTA President LaFawn Green.Jennifer Porter ``She is supposed to be a role model to these children. She is supposed to teach them certain values. But then they see that she doesn't even follow these values herself. What kind of message is that for the children?''

Also on Monday afternoon, investigators with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement were searching the parking lot behind Porter's dance studio in Wesley Chapel. A woman who works at a nearby business said she saw the Echo parked there late Friday and it appeared to have been freshly washed.

This quote from one of her 5th grade students pretty much sums it all up:

``It is weird that a teacher would do that,'' he said. ``I think she should have stopped, but I'm glad she finally told the truth.''

More drivers and witnesses are still being sought.

And I guess she figures we should have mercy or pity on her because of her guilt?

I still can't get over this: Porter has not been charged. Victor Crist's apologies on behalf of Porter don't exactly sit well with me, either.
